Our Bands

  • Townsville Brass is our top band and the heart of the organisation. It brings together a great mix of experienced players, long‑time members, and musicians who’ve come up through Brolga Brass or local school programs. It’s a group that loves making music together and takes pride in sounding good while still keeping things fun.

    The band has a strong history in the North Queensland music scene and continues to build on that tradition with concerts, community events, and projects that challenge and inspire our players. The atmosphere is friendly, supportive, and social — the kind of place where people enjoy turning up each week and being part of something bigger.

    If you’re a brass or percussion player of any age or playing history looking for a welcoming group that still aims high, Townsville Brass is a great place to land.

     

  • Townsville Brolga Brass is our training band and the starting point for many of the players who eventually move into Townsville Brass. It’s a welcoming group with a great mix of developing musicians, returning players, and people who simply enjoy making music in a relaxed, supportive setting.

    Even though it’s a training ensemble, Brolga Brass has a strong identity of its own. The band performs regularly around the Townsville region and often joins forces with Townsville Brass for combined events and community performances. Many of our long‑term members began their journey here, building skills, confidence, and friendships along the way.

    Brolga Brass continues to be an important part of our musical community, offering a fun and encouraging environment for brass and percussion players who want to grow, learn, and enjoy playing together.

  • Supporting young musicians is a big part of what we do at Townsville Brass, and the Youth Band is where that journey really begins. It’s a friendly, encouraging group where school‑age (or not so "school age") players can build confidence, learn new skills, and experience what it’s like to rehearse and perform as part of a real brass band.

    The Youth Band gives developing players the chance to grow at their own pace while enjoying music with others their age. As players progress, many move into Brolga Brass and continue their musical pathway through the organisation.

    All brass and percussion players of any age (but young at heart!) are welcome, whether they’re just getting started or already have some experience. Private tuition can also be arranged for those who want a little extra support along the way.

  • The Beginner Band is where our youngest and newest musicians take their very first steps into brass banding. It’s a relaxed, supportive group designed for true beginners who are just starting out on their instruments and learning the basics of playing together.

    Students build confidence quickly as they learn simple pieces, develop foundational skills, and experience the fun of making music as part of a band. When they’re ready, players naturally progress into the Youth Band and continue their musical journey through the organisation.

    All brass beginners are welcome, and private tuition can be arranged for those who’d like some extra help getting started.

  • The Townsville Brass Academy is where new players get the focused support they need to start their musical journey with confidence. It offers one‑on‑one and small‑group tuition designed to help beginners learn the basics quickly, build good habits, and develop the skills they’ll use in our bands.

    Academy students work closely with experienced tutors who guide them through the fundamentals of brass playing at a pace that suits them. As players grow in confidence and ability, they’re encouraged to move into the Beginner Band, Youth Band, and eventually our performance ensembles.

    The Academy is a great starting point for anyone wanting a solid foundation in brass or percussion, whether they’re completely new to music or returning after time away.
